Space tourism

This is going to expand my travel goals... forget Antarctica :)

So I find myself thinking about space a lot (just ask Belal). Some things I've thought about... what if we have contact with another civilization from outer space? Would we major in Intergalactic Politics? Intergalactic Religions? Intergalactic History? Economics? etc. With a minor in one of their languages? What if they have something better than spices and chocolate and it creates a whole new high demand commodity with space ship trade routes? (forget something like oil, I'm interested in tastes, haha). Will we have to apply for visas? What if they are a thousand years more advanced than us and they teach us everything they know? Would we be able to mentally adapt to so much knowledge so fast? What about intergalactic marriages?.. and other thoughts I'll remember during the hour...

I think all of this is from sleeping on the roof all summer.

Cute couple

So there is an elderly Arab couple at church. The woman since my first time there would talk and talk to me in Arabic and was so sweet and didn't seem to realize or care I couldn't really understand her. She is so sweet and always smiles and waves from clear across the room when I enter.

Her husband is nice and funny. He speaks English. He maintained the church building for many years as employment and has just retired from that. Anyway, he really loves Joey. He tells people, "I don't know why, but that baby really loves me". He always gives me funny advice like "Don't let anyone kiss him on the mouth. I was kissed on the mouth when I was a baby and now I have no teeth", "give him some water with a little bit of mint and a little sugar", "hold him by his arms and not hands when walking with him to protect his shoulders", etc.

They have told me that they are my parents in Jordan. He said "I only talk to you" and gestured to the church crowd, "I don't talk to anyone else except you."

Now she just gave me a phone call and said "I'm sorry. I only know how to say 'How are you?'" and said a few things in Arabic then said "bukra"(tomorrow, church). Sweet, huh?

November Collection

There are a bunch of cute videos, bear with me (I had to google to see if it is bare with me or bear with me):

See how much Joey likes his Smurf toy?:

He flirted with this blanket all summer... unfortunately his aunt put it away for the season (oh and when he saw some fair blond girls at the Thanksgiving dinner he got all squealy):

He can stand and walk holding on to both sides in his crib. It freaks me out. He knows I pick him up especially when it is nighttime because I worry about him falling from fatigue = standing up for attention. Belal is going to have his friend build a bigger crib. FYI, there are legal specifications in U.S. for crib designs... laws are good. These bars are wide and Joey loves to throw his binky and stuff out for attention.

His cousin forced him into her alphabet class. It went on for nearly an hour. She was a strict teacher. The second video is him by the end. Oh and she gets stuck in the alphabet at M and says M three or so times and then slurs her speech to disguise her lack of knowledge :)

Lastly, a video (mostly for keepsakes) with two cousins:

Nephews

My two nephews are so cute! I'm bragging about the youngest who last year was moved from KG to 1st grade... now he has been evaluated as 4th grade level. I had so much fun with him while I was home last year. He is soooo sweet too.

Oh and see how much the Eggetts must have a dominant white-skin gene? My sister-in-law if Caribbean-African descent and Belal Arab and we have white babies :)

Scary Movies

My clever friend Jeff wrote the best blog post ever! The "Rules of Scary Movies" is the one I'm referring to... but they are all good reading.

Aroma Emporium

My mom has finalized her online perfume business. She is importing Arabian perfume oils from Belal. She says she will give any of you a code for 30% off on the Arabian oils if you email her at aromaemporium@yahoo.com. Belal is getting another shipment ready with a few new ones so you may want to check back again in a couple of weeks too. One of the new ones will be "So in love" which is what I bought from him when I first met him :)

This one pictured is called "Petra" that Belal created himself.

News from my neighborhood...

This happened yesterday in my area. My niece said two students were injured by shots in her school when someone was hiding from police there... that doesn't seem to be in the news yet.

Update: This article is better.

And I just got an email that an Australian couple I met in Qatar have booked their flights to come visit at the end of the month :)
